STAR – NATIONAL YOUTH SALSA ACADEMY

This is a new Star/Salsa programme created and designed by Mr Stayz. He will be selecting 10 Students to begin with from G*town/Blenheim and Nelson/Motueka this number will eventually drop down to 8 dancers in each town.
Including a Star Little Salsa team in G*town Blenheim.
Students must go through the reality of written application by email, then if invited audition in front of a Star Judging Panel. The audition can be any form of creative art, Art presentation. Speech, Dance Song, Instrument, drama.
I want to be left totally impressed by what you have presented. I am looking for confidence, preparation, initiative, desire and commitment.
Your Audition piece will need to be no less than 2 minutes no more than 3 minutes.
The hard reality is that some of you will not be selected. I will be selecting a few dancers with experience, but will also focus on training some kids who have had no salsa experience. Some of you will fall, but this is part of a dancers journey, it does’nt mean that you quit, it matters more how you get up again and grow your character from that experience.
For those of you that are successful, you hard work and effort is only the key that opens the door to your new adventure, so take a step through and get ready to Salsa.
This is a list of key targets in which we will be aiming to learn, understand and achieve. You will learn to salsa faster and quicker than any other kids in New Zealand. You will learn faster than any adults in New Zealand. Due to the small number in your class, more time will be focused on you, your technique, your partnering, and progress.
Along with my Salsa Leaders Ms Jas, Ms Jess (JJ.Salsa) Ms Hannah Willy, Ms Ines, Ms Olive, Mr Dylan and Myself you will be in a full immersion Salsa course which will run 1.5 Hours each week (8 week course during School term), plus a Full training day each term.
It will be like you are taking private lessons, you can advance much much faster in this smaller and focused environment. This can be difficult with large classes and varied capabilities.
This course will be FASTRACK, and your progress will be monitored very closely.

Each year you earn a Salsa Graduation Star. Within these 2-3 years you will become (Like a Black Belt – re: Karate in your craft.). You will also get invited to The NZ Youth Salsa Congress and NZ adult Salsa Congress. You will be up for selection to Sydney Salsa Congress 2010, Sydney Salsa Classic 2009-2010, Beijing 2009.

This is a 2-3 Year Commitment, you will become more skill-full in all these dance forms than anyone else your own age. You will become the best Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Zouk, Street Chachacha kids in New Zealand.
